Drones will play a major role in the asset management sector within the coming years, predicts Mohammed Shawky, the founder of GeoDrones.
"Governments are now looking to create digital twins of every asset in the country. This includes roads, bridges, and historical places. This will require the use of drones," he said.
Currently more popular in the real estate and construction sectors, drones can contribute greatly to bringing down the operational cost for the FM industry.
"They can be used to cut costs and time by almost half. For instance, creating an inspection report of a facility might take up to one month, including the paperwork, taking permissions, and finding the right staff. With drone technology, it could be done within a week."
They can also be used for the inspection of hard-to-reach areas such as rooftops and building facades, thereby increasing the safety of workers. This is particularly true of asset management in the oil and gas and energy sector, he said.
