Prancesca Ma Rogelia Perey, Assistant Quality Engineer, Al Bonian Facilities Management
CM today started a series featuring the most influential and inspirational women in the region’s built environment. Over the last few months, we have interacted with so many amazing women that we decided to turn the article into a series.
In this edition, we caught up with Prancesca Ma Rogelia Perey, Assistant Quality Engineer, Al Bonian Facilities Management. Working in FM is no easy feat as it requires a lot of effort, dedication, time, and a strong character. And it was these essential requirements that made Prancesca question herself, ‘how can a woman handle such a demanding job in the built environment which is traditionally filled with men?” But, at the end of the day, the challenging aspect of the job is what fundamentally inspired her to enter this industry. Working in the field of Facilities Management has allowed her to showcase and grow her skills. And with the help of her mentors, Prancesca soon found her voice in the industry.
Proud Moment
“To be honest, being chosen by our top management as the “most influential woman” among all the women here in our company is the proudest moment in my five years working career. This proves that all my effort and hard work paid off as they recognized what I did. My determination and willingness to learn has helped me to improve myself and resulted in a commendable performance.”
Barriers in Female Leadership
“Most people see this field, especially in this country, as being maledominated. Men are often seen as more powerful and stronger than women. This gender stereotyping became a barrier for most women in the industry. For me, however, instead of seeing this as a barrier, I saw this as a challenge to prove that we can lead equally as well.
Advice
“Do not let anyone underestimate you because you are a woman. Prove to them that you can do the same tasks, and you can do them even better. Be an inspiration to all the women out there by showing your determination and enthusiasm in everything you do. Believe and trust in yourself and don’t hold yourself back. And never stop learning as this will help you to progress.”
